Current Dental Discussions

Moorings Park, May 2nd, 2012

Dr. Chris Page provided a presentation from our “Current Dental Discussions” speaker series to the staff and residents of Moorings Park retirement community.  The topic was “The Link between Periodontal Disease, Heart Disease, Diabetes and Missing Teeth”.  Dr. Page provided insight into the current thinking with regards to the systemic effects thought to be associated with the bacteria involved with periodontal disease and its relation to inflammatory diseases in other parts of the body. This is a topic that is continually being updated.

Dr. Page’s goal of this presentation is to educate individuals on the potential risks involved with these specific conditions.  Dr. Page also discussed different ways these situations can be effectively treated.

One of the questions presented to Dr. Page was, “why do some people need to have their teeth cleaned every six months and some people need their teeth cleaned every three months”? Dr. Page stated that different people have different susceptibilities to periodontal breakdown.  If the patient is showing signs of periodontal pocketing and inflammation, the first line of attack is to increase the frequency of cleanings to every 3 – 4 months.  It was also stated that some individuals have a more difficult time with dexterity and cannot thoroughly clean their teeth on their own.

Dr. Page welcomes questions during and after his presentations.  This allows individuals to ask questions that are specific to their dental health also.

Please see our website to see when Dr. Page will be speaking again and where.  We welcome suggestions as to topics of interest.
